A smartphone without battery is not smart – it’s useless. Many features drain the battery life on smartphones so it’s not a walk in the park finding a smartphone with long battery life. See top 20 guide to phones with best battery life.

Battery life on phones has not been improved in the same way as other features. If the battery life had been improved just as much as say the camera recent years, we could use it for several days without charging.
Battery life is a challenged feature – many things on a phone put pressure on the battery.
Features that drain battery life on phones
Poor antenna quality is maybe the biggest sinner in this matter. A phone with poor antenna quality has to ping for the antenna signal way more often than phones with good antenna quality – and that leaves the battery high and dry.
The phone companies do not themself tell us how the antenna quality is on their phones but scientific studies have shown us that there is a clear link between poor antenna quality and sar value – or mobile emission. High sar value means poor antenna quality which again means poor battery life because the phone has to use way more power staying connected to the mobile network.
Other features also suck the battery dry: A big display with high resolution – it simple screams Use me all the time for surfing, video, gaming – you continue the list.
We use the phone to take pictures and record videos all the time. Most people use Google Maps or Apple Maps for navigation – both walking, cycling, and driving. We use the phone when excercising with the location feature turned on. Again – you continue the list.

Why is iPhone 11 Pro Max not among phones with best battery life?
Some might be dissapointed realizing iPhone 11 Pro Max is not on the list. Not even on a top 20 list. I know many test have shown it has long battery life – but in a controlled enviroment. In real life use where you walk around tons of places the poor antenna quality on the phone is simply a disaster for the battery life.
Battery life has improved on iPhone 11 Pro compared to 10 S Max, but it’s not among the best.
Conclusion
From the list I would choose Huawei P30 Pro – it combines price and quality best. It will recieve updates from Google and Android so it’s still safe to buy.
Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy A50 are also to affordable phones with nice specs for the price. Note 10 Plus is of course amazing – but it’s also pretty pricey.
